The Butler PR is a San Diego–based independent film publicity firm founded by publicist Daniel N. Butler. We work with emerging filmmakers and independent productions to build visibility, reach new audiences, and get their films noticed.
We specialize in horror, comedy, and thrillers, while welcoming films of any genre with a distinctive voice, compelling story, or unconventional angle.
Our approach combines targeted publicity with long-term discoverability. Beyond traditional press outreach, we develop strategies designed to strengthen a film’s presence across IMDb, Letterboxd, Google Search, and other platforms where audiences, critics, programmers, and industry professionals discover independent cinema.
For films competing for attention without the reach of a major studio campaign, our goal is simple: make the movie easier to find, harder to overlook, and part of the conversation.
Daniel N. Butler
Daniel N. Butler began editing video in the late 1990s, developing an early interest in filmmaking and post-production. Over the years, he has worked alongside his filmmaker brother on independent productions in a variety of roles, including post-production editing and assistance, visual effects, boom operation, and production sound recording.
Since 2015, Daniel has ranked among IMDb’s top 2% of contributors, giving him extensive firsthand experience with how films are cataloged, presented, and discovered online.
In 2020, he began focusing on independent film publicity and audience development. Through hands-on experience promoting microbudget and independent films, Daniel developed his own approach to digital publicity, combining press outreach with strategies for improving a film’s visibility and discoverability across platforms such as IMDb, Letterboxd, and search engines.
